It’s in Arabic and it contains how independent Arab news channels (Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya reacted with regards to Egyptian allegations of ‘bloodbaths’ in Sudan at the hands of Algerian fans following the play-off match against Egypt). The message is: Egyptian media are a bunch of demented liars and they pulled the simple-minded Egyptian masses with them into the whirlpool of hysteria and denial which followed losing the World Cup qualifier game against Algeria. These are reports from official Sudanese sources and independent (i.e. non Egyptian and non Algerian) journalists from Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya who were Continue reading
This is an amateur video but it is not that different from the material which has been continuously shown on the Egyptian network of national TV channels (public and private). Admire the great hatchet job of cut and paste there. Although the montage is quite poor I have to say. It’s got English subtitles as well, but comments have been disabled. To disable criticism perhaps? Just like their official media are doing, cutting off any calls from people with alternative points of views or testimonies which are different from the accepted version. Yawn! These people are truly pathetic. They turned defeat in a football match into a national tragedy of epic proportions. I hope they will grow up soon or at least wake up. It is getting really embarrassing. Even the irish have finished whining and got on with their lives!
The following videos are from an Egyptian TV programme which is acclaimed by Egyptians as one of the most neutral and objective programmes in Egyptian media. It is shocking how the presenter treats the people who phone in to say that the Egyptian side is most at fault because it is fanning the flames with exaggerations and unproven allegations. If this is one of the most neutral and objective programmes, you can imagine how the other less objective ones are like!
Video 1: an Egyptian political journalist calls in to say that all the Egyptian claims remain unproven and as such the Egyptian media are to blame for encouraging the anger of the masses. He states that even official Egyptian reports from the Ministry of Health do acknowledge that there have been 45 casualties within Algerian supporters following the match which took place in Cairo, one of which was suffering from stab wounds. These are casualties which necessitated hospital treatments. On the other hand, the official reports from Sudan state that there have been 22 minor injuries within Egyptian supporters. Basically, his point is that all official reports point to the fact that most of the violence which took place was from the Egyptian side. To which the guests of the programme murmur Continue reading
